Is a vegan diet healthy?

Our diet plays an important role to our health and general well-being, much more than we think. The Greek doctor Hippocrates already pointed it out with his well-known quote "Your food is your medicine and your medicine is your food". The vegan diet is rich in vegetable proteins, vitamins, minerals and phaser substances, which support the body in its functions, prevent diseases and significantly increase our general well-being.

Why vegan? Reasons behind a plant-based diet

The number of people world wide who live vegan, is estimated at around one million, which is a rapidly increasing trend. Hereby, the question arises why more and more people are adopting a vegan diet. What drives them? What are the reasons behind an animal product-free lifestyle?

Fighting world hunger

Around 822 million people are starving worldwide, that is about one in eleven. However, there is more than enough food in the world to feed all of humanity. We have to be aware of the following: the more animal products we consume, the fewer people we can feed. Since instead of providing grain directly to people in need as a source of nutrition, a large part of it is fed to animals that are kept for meat, milk or egg production. Not only is it inefficient, but it also has a direct impact on world hunger.

The history of veganism

Anyone who thinks that veganism developed in the 20th century is wrong!. It all began in ancient times in the form of vegetarianism, the representative of which was the famous philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras, who renounced the consumption of meat. Only in England did the official history of veganism begin with the foundation of the “Vegan Society”. To find out more, join us on a journey through the history of vegetarianism to veganism.
